After more than three years since the December deluge of 2015, Corporation has finally started construction of the major underground drainage (UGD) on Pallavaram-Thoraipakkam Radial Road. It is being done to divert water from all the waterbodies in Madipakkam and the surrounding areas to Pallikaranai marshland thereby to discharge into the Bay of Bengal.

Following the efforts of the residents welfare associations and Police Department, CCTV cameras are being setup in Madipakkam, Chennai, at a brisk pace.

While the canal has been left unprotected throughout its course, it poses a great risk for motorists at its intersection at Medavakkam Main Road. The parapet wall on the bridge is small and doesn’t cover the entire width of the waterbody
