Chennai: “Around 80 per cent of eye ailments recorded in our country are either preventable or curable. However, due to lack of accessibility to quality eye care they are left untreated,” said Dr Agarwal’s Group of Eye Hospital, head of clinical services, Dr Ashar Agarwal.

Addressing mediapersons after the inauguration of the hospital in Tirupur, he said, “While there has been tremendous progress in eye care services in major Indian cities, we are committed to offer the same advanced treatments in Tirupur with state-of-the-art equipment.’

Actress Andrea Jeremiah, who was the chief guest at the event, emphasised the need to donate eyes.

“The demand for donor eyes is increasing in the country. Instead of burying, it is good and laudable if they are donated so that other visually-impaired people will benefit,” the actress said.

Located at No. 32, Rayapandaram Street, the new hospital will be manned by a team of experienced medical experts who will offer the best in eye care. Other facilities include laboratory, pharmacy, modular operation theatre and viewing gallery (for live surgeries) and optical wing, a press release said.
