Nirmala Sitharaman seeks inputs to correct GST flaws

Conceding that GST may have some flaws in its present form, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman asked tax professionals not to curse it and sought their help to make it better. The minister was replying to the concerns raised by taxation industry professionals here, who said the industry was “cursing” the government over how the GST was implemented. Billed as the biggest reform in indirect taxation, the goods & services tax, which does away with a host of levies from the federal to the local government levels, was implemented in July 2017.

1,37,820 passengers travel in Metro

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) witnessed a surge in the passenger flow yesterday (11 October) with a total 1,37,820 people travelling in Metro trains. A press release said, this has been the highest passenger travel in the month of October 2019.

NEET fraud: Woman medico arrested in city

The CB-CID has taken a female medical student into custody for an inquiry into the ongoing NEET impersonation case. According to sources, identified as Priyanka, she was studying MBBS in a private medical college in the city. She has been taken to Theni by a team of CB-CID for further inquiry.
