In a bold and important move, Chief Minister K Palaniswami on Sunday announced eight Cauvery delta districts of Tamilnadu including the rice bowl, Thanjavur, will be categorised as a special protected agricultural zone and assured that permission will not be given for hydrocarbon projects. Asserting that steps will be taken to enact a separate law to confer the protected status to the delta districts, he said here that only agro-based industries will be encouraged on a need basis in the river Cauvery fed regions.

Jayam Ravi is a busy bee in Kollywood with movies including Ponniyin Selvan and Bhoomi. Interestingly Bhoomi is his 25th film and it has been written and directed by Lakshman, who had earlier worked with the actor in Romeo Juliet and Bogan. D IMman scores music for the film.

KS Ravikumar denies directing Ajith

There were rumours recently that veteran director KS Ravikumar was all set to direct Ajith again after almost 17 years and pre-production work has already begun. There were also speculations that Sun Pictures will be bankrolling the project and the shoot of the film will begin in a couple of months.

The Palestinians have abandoned their request for a vote at the UN Security Council on Tuesday that they hoped would reject the peace plan of President Donald Trump, whose administration has put heavy pressure on critics, diplomats said. Introduced by Indonesia and Tunisia, the resolution risked not having nine out of 15 votes in its favour, the minimum required for adoption provided there is no veto by a permanent member, the diplomats told AFP.

Kabul suicide attack leaves five killed

A suicide attack rocked the Afghan capital Kabul early Tuesday killing at least five people, officials said, in what was the first major assault in the city in months. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, which comes after nearly three months of relative calm in the capital.
