Support Janta Curfew: Governor to people


Chennai: Governor Banwarilal Purohit has appealed the people of the State to support the ‘Janta Curfew’ (People’s Curfew) on Sunday from 7 am to 9 pm to prevent and stop the global pandemic COVID-19.

In an appeal on Friday, he requested the people to abide by this peoples curfew and not to leave their homes, not to come to streets or roam around.

He said as a safety measure, children below the age of 10 and senior citizens above the age of 65 should not leave home for the next few weeks, unless or otherwise the circumstances warranted and practice social distance.

Appreciating the efforts taken by the State government to prevent spread of the coronavirus, he requested the youth of the State, organisations like NCC, NSS, civil society, as well as other organisations of all types to spread awareness about the peoples curfew over the next two days.

He also appealed to every individual if possible, call at least 10 people on the phone everyday, explaining to them on how to protect themselves from the virus as well as the idea of people’s curfew.

The Governor also sought people’s support to express gratitude to lakhs of people who have been working day and night in Hospitals and Airports in fighting war against Corona, on Sunday at exactly 5 pm by standing at the doors, balconies, windows of their homes and giving them all a five-minute standing ovation, clapping hands, beating plates to boost their morale and salute their service.

He also requested the local authorities across the State to ring a siren at 5 pm on Sunday and said ’22 March will be a symbol of our effort, of our self-restraint, and our resolve to fulfil our duty in service of the nation’.

”The success of peoples curfew on Sunday and the experience gained from it, will also prepare us for our upcoming challenges,’ Purohit said.

He appealed to everyone to co-operate and to shoulder the
responsibility to overcome this critical environment of global pandemic in the interest of safeguarding human life as a whole. Humanity and India should win this fight, the Governor said.

He also lauded the initiatives action taken by the State Government, to prevent COVID -19 in statewide operations especially by closing all types educational institutions, commercial establishments, clubs, social functions, conferences, meetings and also religious places.
