Cyclone Nivar: Government holiday in Tamilnadu tomorrow

Heavy rains lashed Chennai city and suburbs, as the cyclonic storm ‘Nivar’ over the southwest Bay of Bengal moved westwards with a speed of five kmph during the past six hours and lay centred over southwest Bay of Bengal about 380 km eastsoutheast of Puducherry and 430 km south-southeast of Chennai.

Actor Thavasi, who was part of films like Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam, Rajini Murugan, and Seemaraja, passed away on Monday. The actor was being treated for cancer.

The deep depression over southwest Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards with a speed of five kmph during the past some hours, intensified into a Cyclonic Storm ‘Nivar’ and would cross between Tamilnadu and Puducherry coasts as a severe cyclonic storm tomorrow.
