Poll defeat: Congress’ top body to take key decisions

New Delhi: The Congress Working Committee or CWC, the top decision-making body of the grand old party, will meet at 4 pm Sunday, three days after a huge defeat in the State polls.

According to reports, the CWC is likely to advance internal elections scheduled in September amid renewed questions about its leadership.

The outcome of the Assembly polls held in five states, including Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, came as a shock to the Congress which had hoped for a good performance to revive its prospects ahead of the 2024 national election, and emerge as a strong alternative to the ruling Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance.

Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, a member of the G-23,has tweeted the party could not avoid change while his colleague Jaiveer Shergill appealed for reform and warned against ‘sugar-coating’ the loss.
