Review: Kallan

Debutant filmmaker Chandra Thangaraj offers an action-packed rural gangster flick featuring Karu Pazhaniappan in the lead. It speaks about anger, agony, deceit, revenge and more. With a team of good performers and a racy screenplay, Chandra does a decent job.

The film is a fictionalised take on real-life events that the filmmaler witnessed growing up in a small village in Theni.

Besides Karu Pazhaniappab, the movie stars Nikita, Maya, Soundararaja and Namo Narayanan in key roles. The film has music by K and cinematography by MS Prabu and Gopijegatheeswaran.

The movie revolves around Karu Pazhaniappan, who takes us hinting for survival after his father’s death. When police stops him from hunting, he illegally makes guns. He follows it up with some petty crimes, which lands him in greater trouble. How he overcomes from them forms the crux.

Karu Pazhaniappan does well. Nikita is intense and emotional. Namo Narayanan and Soundararaja chip in well. Maya is a surprise addition. She has great talent.K’s background score is apt and reminds one of 80’s Hollywood gangster flicks.
