Cauvery water: Committee directs Karnataka to release 5,000 cusecs of water to TN

The Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) on Monday directed Karnataka to release 5,000 cusecs of water per day for the next 15 days to Tamil Nadu. The decision comes amid objection by Karnataka over its inability to release water to the neighbouring state due to rain deficit.

Due to deficit rainfall and the release of water to Tamil Nadu, the water storage in the Cauvery basin is dipping and it has angered the farmers from Karnataka who have been demanding the Congress-led government to stop the release of water.

Tamiel Nadu demanded 24,000 cusecs of water per day for the next 10 days which was rejected by the CWRC.
