Karnataka refusing to release Cauvery water despite having enough: Duraimurugan

In a recent development, Tamilnadu’s Water Resources Minister, Duraimurugan, has strongly criticized the Karnataka government for its refusal to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu, in direct violation of orders from the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) and the Supreme Court. Duraimurugan accused Karnataka of hoarding water, sparking concerns over the ongoing water dispute between the two neighboring states.

Addressing the issue during a meeting with Union Jal Shakthi Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in New Delhi, Duraimurugan expressed his deep frustration with Karnataka’s non-compliance. He emphasized that despite the clear directives from the highest authorities, the Karnataka government appeared reluctant to release the essential water resources to Tamil Nadu.
The Cauvery River has long been a contentious point of contention between the southern states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The sharing of Cauvery waters has been the subject of numerous legal battles and negotiations over the years, with the Supreme Court and CWRC periodically issuing directives to ensure a fair distribution of water resources.
The recent refusal by Karnataka to abide by these orders has intensified tensions between the two states. Duraimurugan’s condemnation highlights the urgency of the situation and the pressing need for a resolution that adheres to established legal agreements.
