18,000 cops to maintain vigil in city for Deepavali

Chennai: Chennai is gearing up for the festive season with a set of proactive safety measures in place to ensure the well-being of its residents and visitors.

From traffic regulation to crime prevention and emergency response, the authorities have left no stone unturned in creating a secure environment for all.

Efficient Traffic Regulation

In the heart of the city, areas such as T.Nagar, Purasawalkam, Washermenpet, and Flower Bazaar are known for their hustle and bustle. To maintain smooth traffic flow, traffic patrol vehicles with dedicated personnel have been deployed. Their presence ensures that commuters can navigate through the busy streets with ease.

Random Baggage Screening

As a crucial security measure, public baggage will be randomly screened at commercial establishments, shopping malls, and crowded areas using Mobile X-Ray Baggage Scanner vehicles. This proactive approach aims to deter potential threats and protect public safety.

Empowering Women

In an effort to ensure the safety of women, they are encouraged to wear scarves as a precaution against chain-snatching incidents. Moreover, plainclothes police officers (Mufti police) will be strategically placed in crowded areas to monitor and deter criminal activities.

Swift Emergency Response

Preparedness is key, and Chennai authorities have taken it seriously. To ensure rapid response in case of any untoward incidents, 108 Ambulances with medical teams and Fire Engines with skilled firefighters are on standby. Their presence guarantees that immediate assistance is available when needed.

Safe Firework Shopping

With the festive season often accompanied by the use of firecrackers, special safety measures have been implemented around cracker shops. These precautions aim to prevent any accidents or incidents related to the sale and use of fireworks.

Enhanced Public Transport

The convenience of the public is not forgotten either. Special bus depots have been set up at strategic locations like Koyambedu, Madhavaram, and K.K.Nagar. This initiative is designed to facilitate easy travel for those looking to visit their native places during the festive season.
