Goondas Act invoked against Tamil YouTuber ‘Savukku’ Shankar


Controversial YouTuber, whistleblower, and political commentator ‘Savukku’ Shankar has been detained under the Goondas Act while in judicial custody at the Coimbatore central prison. The detention order, issued by the Greater Chennai Police Commissioner Sandeep Rai Rathore, marks a significant development in the ongoing legal saga surrounding Shankar. The detention order was served to Shankar at the Coimbatore prison by an Inspector from the Cyber Crime wing of the Central Crime Branch, Chennai. This move comes amidst mounting legal challenges faced by Shankar, with multiple cases filed against him by the Greater Chennai Police. According to an official release, there are currently seven cases registered against Shankar in the Cyber Crime Police Station of the Greater Chennai Police, with various stages of investigation and legal proceedings. The recent case, filed by the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA), accuses Shankar of fabricating documents related to the Kilambakkam bus terminus and circulating them, leading to the invocation of sections 466 (forgery) and 471 (using a forged document as genuine) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), among others.
