The Chennai High Court dismissed the petition filed by Minister Senthil Balaji, seeking a postponement of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) case hearing, after Balaji withdrew his petition.
Senthil Balaji, who served as the Transport Minister during the AIADMK regime, faced allegations of fraud for promising government appointments in exchange for bribes. A case was filed against him and others for this alleged misconduct. Following this, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) took action under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
Balaji had initially filed a petition to be released from the case, which was dismissed by the Principal Sessions Court. Subsequently, he approached the Special Court for MPs and MLAs, seeking a delay in the investigation until the completion of the fraud case against him. However, his petition was rejected by the Principal Sessions Court in Chennai.
In response, Senthil Balaji appealed to the High Court, where the case was heard by a bench consisting of Justices S.M. Subramaniam and M. Jyothiraman. After hearing arguments from both sides, the petition was dismissed. On the day of the hearing, Senthil Balaji’s legal team informed the court that they were withdrawing the petition.
Following the withdrawal, the judges issued an order to dismiss the petition.
