Rights of delta farmers will be protected: Duraimurugan

Tamil Nadu Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan on Thursday asserted that the DMK government will never relinquish the rights of Cauvery delta farmers in the ongoing Mekedatu dam dispute with Karnataka.

He clarified that the Supreme Court’s recent order deemed Tamil Nadu’s plea premature since the detailed project report (DPR) for the dam is yet to be approved by expert bodies such as the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) and the Central Water Resources Commission (CWRC).

Minister Duraimurugan highlighted that the apex court instructed Tamil Nadu to present its objections before these expert authorities and that no final decision should be taken without hearing the state’s views.

He emphasized the government’s consistent efforts over the years to stall Karnataka’s dam construction, including opposing environmental clearances and DPR approvals.
