Chennai, Apr 7:
The Vande Bharat Express operating between Chennai and Coimbatore is set to undergo a major upgrade this summer, with plans to increase its capacity from 8 coaches to 16 coaches.
The move comes in response to rising passenger demand during the holiday season, aiming to provide more seating and ease congestion on one of Tamil Nadu’s busiest routes.
The expansion is expected to significantly improve travel convenience for passengers commuting between the two cities.
Railway officials are also focusing on enhancing overall service efficiency, ensuring smoother operations and better onboard experience. The increased capacity is likely to benefit both daily commuters and long-distance travellers.
In addition to passenger services, Indian Railways continues to strengthen its freight operations, highlighting the parallel importance of rail freight in boosting economic activity and logistics efficiency across the region.
The coach augmentation marks another step in modernising rail travel while addressing growing demand on key intercity corridors.
