Mumbai street foods to tickle Chennai tastebuds

Chennai: For food lovers of this city there is no shortage of locations to get tasty dishes.

This time, they can make it to Poolview restaurant at SRM Hotel to indulge their tastebuds with some popular dishes of Mumbai.

The ‘Mumbai Street Food Festival’, which was inaugurated recently, offers a good deal of street food popular across various locations in Mumbai. Inaugurating the food festival, director of SRM Institute of Hotel Management Anthony Ashok Kumar said people from all walks of life come to small stalls to relish varieties of street food in Mumbai.

Street food is highly popular there as it is not only tasty but also easily digestible and we are bringing them this time to the residents of Chennai, he said.

A team under the guidance of executive chef of SRM Hotel S Ramesh, has put in their best efforts to lay out the tasty dishes.

“We have seen good response from our south Indian customers. In particular, their love for cuisines from the northern part of the country is endless and we hope these dishes with Bombay flavour will also win their hearts,” he said with a smile.

Making a start with a welcome drink Matha (buttermilk) will be a fine thing to do. Soon after that Mango Mastani, which is made by mixing mango puree with ice cream, can also be relished.

Bombay Sandwich whose one layer contains potato mash and the other cucumber and mint chutney, will be a good item to pick up. This also has khatta-meeta chutney which gives a special tangy taste.

The next on the offer is Masala Bhaat, a dish made of ginger, garlic, vegetables and rice – even garam masala is added to it to make it spicy.
For those who love non-vegetarian dishes, there is Bombay Ghost Biriyani (mutton), Tambusa curry (fish) and Murgh Sholay Kabab (chicken) to choose from.
Food is not complete without tasting something sweet and Besan Laddoo, Malpua and Jalebi, apart from fruit salad, are on the list for those with a sweet tooth. Not to forget, the signature dishes of Mumbai like Panipuri, Vada Pav, Pav Bhaji
are also on offer. The food festival is on till 24 May.
