Chennai: Booking.com, a major travel e-commerce player has identified that Singapore, Colombo, Dubai are the most booked destinations by travellers in Tamil Nadu for the period of April to June 2018.
In terms of top international destinations Tamilnadu people travelled to, Singapore, Colombo and Dubai have proven to be big draw cards during the second quarter, with Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok completing the top five.
On the domestic front, most travellers from Tamil Nadu made their reservations in State’s capital Chennai, renowned hill stations, Kodaikanal and Ooty. Pondicherry and Bangalore came next.
The data drawn on the destinations were based on rank, in terms of the highest amount of absolute bookings by travellers in the state of Tamilnadu.
The insights, further indicate that travellers from Tamilnadu kept their trips limited to Southeast Asia and Dubai at an international level.
In terms of domestic journeys, Tamilnadu travellers chose to traverse South India, staying close to home – to beat the heat during the stressful summer.
Country Manager India, Booking.com, Ritu Mehrotra said, “With the expanding economic scenario and more disposable income, travellers in the state of Maharashtra are currently growing at a rapid pace. Consumers are increasingly moving towards online travel bookings; as smartphone penetration grows and use of E-commerce and digital payments go up.”
“The increasing accessibility of the internet and the rise of social media has also helped in creating greater consumer awareness not only in metros but also in non-metro cities as we witness an increasing number of travellers from smaller cities and less populated areas of the country planning domestic and international vacations,” she added.
