1,000 Jain devotees fast 8 days for world peace


Chennai: More than 1,000 devotees took part in the eight day fasting for world peace organised by Shree Anand Marudhar Kesari Madhukar(AMKM) Jain memorial Trust.

A press release said well known personalities from the city participated in the fasting and more than 7000 people witnessed the last day event that took place at Binny Mills Ground, Perambur, Chennai.

‘Devotees of Acharya’s in the age group from 12 years to 80 years including 27 leprosy patients participated in the fasting. Around 150 persons from various parts of Maharashtra and also from across India took part in the event,’ the release added.

It further said the fasting was organised on the eve of Acharya’s birth anniversary.

“During the fasting, devotees will drink only hot water that too till sunset. After sunset, they don’t even take water. The eight day festival also symbolises friendship as it is a marriage between four days of Shravan and four days of Bhadarva. This is a noble cause, especially when terrorism, violence, disturbances are on the rise,” said Jain guru Upadhyaya Pravar Praveen Rishiji Maharaj Saheb.

The Jain community trust also conducted free health camp, free distribution to orphan children, free food and woman empowerment during the fasting. In addition, the Jain guru Upadhaya Pravar Praveen Rishiji Maharaj Saheb conducts Meditation classes which helped the participants to control our body health, balance, transform, secure, strengthen and stabilise.
