Chennai: The Tamilnadu police has constituted the Vishaka Committee to ensure the safety of women police personnel.
It was in 2013 that the government passed a law, based on the recommendations of the Supreme Court that work places that employ more than 10 women should form the committee to check sexual harassment.
The recent provocation is a woman police personnel lodging a sexual harassment complaint against an inspector general of police.
The Vishaka Committee that has been constituted now consists of ADGP Arunachalam, Crime Records Bureau director Seema Agarwal, DIG Thenmozhi and retired SP Saraswathi.
The committee is empowered to take up sexual harassment charges within the police department.
