Chennai: The Consumers Association of India (CAl), a voluntary non-profit organisation, working for the rights of consumers, has expressed its disappointment at the direction of Madras High Court asking National Highway Authority of lndia (NHAI) to create exclusive lanes for VlPs, including sitting judges, at all toll plazas on national highways.
The association, at its board meeting held recently, resolved to request
the judges to reconsider their direction, since it gives a wrong impression
that VlPs are above law, a press release said.
The association suggested that the problem can be overcome by implementing the ‘FASTag’ system or automatic electronic payment system on national highways.
Since the special lane sought for VlPs, will be carved out of the current lane at toll plazas, the proposed lane, CAI believe, will be at the cost of paying customers and will put them to significant inconvenience.
