Thorough probe needed

With reports claiming that Income Tax department had sent a letter to Tamilnadu government seeking action against C Vijayabaskar based on ‘his father’s confession’ on the Health Minister’s ‘involvement in bribe taking in exchange of jobs’, a fresh controversy has erupted in the State’s political circles.

Even as opposition parties demanded removal of the Minister from the Cabinet, his father Chinnathambi has issued a statement, denying the charges made against him and Vijayabaskar.

“With regard to the I-T raids, I categorically state that there was no unaccounted money being seized by the officials. My family members and I have extended full support to the I-T department. Whenever we were asked to appear in connection with the raids, we have been there with all the documents needed for the probe,” he said.

Claiming that false reports were being circulated about him despite his complying with all legal norms, he said,”I am pained with the malafide intention being leveled against my family and me in person. Neither I nor my family members are indulged in misappropriation offence.”

Since the claims are contrary and the allegations are of very serious nature, the need of the hour is a thorough and neutral probe to bring out the truth.

If the charges are found true at the end of investigation, fair action should be taken against wrong-doers. Will Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami do the needful?
