Chennai: University of Montreal (Canada) student Sophia Lois, arrested for raising slogans against the BJP government, has been granted bail by the Thoothukudi court. The judge advised her not to raise such slogans in public.
Sophia was arrested yesterday for raising the slogan ‘BJP’s fascist government down, down’, while seated behind the party’s Tamilnadu president Tamilisai Soundararajan, on a flight to Thoothukudi.
After she raised the same slogan at the airport, Tamilisai lodged a complaint with the Pudukottai police and Sophia was detained at the airport. She was later arrested.
When she was produced in the Thoothukudi court this morning, she was granted bail.
