Shami seeks extra security, cites death threats from wife

Chennai: Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has reportedly asked for a gunner for his security citing death threats from his wife Hasin Jahan.

The dispute between Shami and Jahan goes back to March this year when Jahan accused Shami of having affairs with other women and also alleged him of involving in spot-fixing.

The BCCI cleared Shami from match-fixing charges, citing lack of evidence. However, the dispute continues between the couple who got married in 2014.

Recently, Shami has submitted an application to the District Magistrate of Amroha for a gunner while the District Magistrate Hemant Kumar has asked him to complete the formalities on the application.

Shami is currently living with his family in Shaspur Ali Nagar in Uttar Pradesh. Whenever he is not playing for India he had kept a personal security guard. However, the guard was later removed by him.

Following threats from his wife now, he has requested the government to provide him extra security. Shami’s performance in the Test series at England was appreciated after he bagged 16 wickets, emerging as the fourth highest wicket-taker in the series.

He is now preparing for the Test series at home against the West Indies, where he will lead the Indian pace attack with the absence of Ishant Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah.
