Nepali gang tries to rob bank; two held, four at large

Ramanathapuram: Two Nepali youth have been arrested while four others are at large for allegedly trying to rob a private bank here, police said Wednesday.

The robbery bid was made on Sunday night. Local residents complained to the police that they saw suspicious-looking outsiders moving around the bank.

Based on the complaint, the police rushed to the scene but did not see anything unusual, but noticed gas cylinders and cutting equipment lying around the bank premises.

Closer inspection indicated that the alarm system at the bank had been cut off, the police said. The robbers had abandoned their plan and fled upon seeing the police.

Later, CCTV camera recordings were examined and they showed some Nepali youth moving around the area, they said. Following this, two of them were arrested and interrogation revealed that four others were also involved in the robbery bid, they added.
