Cop shoots self after killing medico girlfriend on her b’day


Chennai: A police constable shot at his lover in a fit of rage and then took his own life with the same service revolver in Villupuram.

According to the police, Karthik (30), who was an Armed Reserve Force constable with the Vellore Battalion was in Anniyur to meet his girlfriend Saraswathi (23) at her residence to celebrate her birthday.

Karthik was a native of Anthiyur, Erode. He had also worked with the Chennai police a few years ago.


A senior police official said, “The duo was in a relationship for the past four years. He reached her house yesterday and early this morning he gave her a few birthday gifts.”

The two had established contact on Facebook and got their parents’ approval for marriage, it is said. Saraswathi was pursuing MBBS and it is said Karthik was not happy with some of her friends and wanted her to stop speaking to them.

This morning, an argument broke out between the two and Karthik shot at her. Later, he killed himself using the same weapon. The bodies were sent to a government hospital in Mundiyampakkam for post-mortem.
