Chennai: Mukkulathor Puli Padai leader and MLA Karunas has said he is not being instigated by DMK president M K Stalin or Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) deputy general secretary T T V Dhinakaran.
Karunas called on Stalin at his residence this morning, making several antennas go up. But he told mediapersons there that it was a courtesy call.
The Thiruvadanai MLA today also called on T V Dhinakaran at his residence.
After meeting Stalin at his Gopalapuram house, Karunaas said neither the DMK president nor Dhinakaran was instigating him.
“My meeting with Stalin is a mark of respect to show my gratitude for the support he extended to me when I was arrested,” he said.
He further said the Speaker was someone who should maintain balance and not be partisan. But the present Speaker, P Dhanapal, was not acting like that, he said.
Karunas was recently arrested for defaming Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and, later, enlarged on conditional bail.
During that time, there were rumours floating that he was being backed by Stalin and Dhinakaran to rebel against the AIADMK on whose ticket he had become an MLA.
Karunas had also threatened at the time to reveal ‘secrets’ about the Koovathur resort sojourn of the AIADMK MLAs when Palaniswami was elected the Chief Minister.
