Chennai: “It is not necessary to step down if one is accused of corruption. But it is necessary to probe the case,” said BJP State president Tamilisai Soundararajan today on allegations of corruption levelled against Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami.
Tamilisai defended the right of the Chief Minister to remain in the post even after a CBI probe was ordered by the High Court into the corruption allegations against Palaniswami. She stated the absurdity of the call for his resignation merely on the basis of charges that have not been proved yet.
Hinting at the 2G scam in the UPA rule, Tamilisai pointed out that the DMK did not resign when it was accused of corruption at the time.
“When the DMK was in power along with the Congress in the Centre, did they resign when their party members were accused of corruption?” Tamilisian shot back while speaking about the growing call by Opposition parties and DMK president Stalin demanding the resignation of Edappadi Palaniswami.
On the #MeToo allegations against Vairamuthu, Tamilisai said, “If any woman is facing an injustice, the person who has done the crime, irrespective of his status, should be brought to justice. The allegations of sexual harassment against Vairamuthu should be investigated.”
She said this at a meeting organised by the Sabarimalai Ayyappan Seva Samajam at Valluvar Kottam against the Supreme Court verdict in the Sabarimala Temple case.
The women at the meet took an oath that they would not enter the Sabarimala Temple. The meeting was attended by BJP national secretary H Raja.
AIADMK, DMK involved in corruption: Ponnar
“The AIADMK and DMK have been in involved in corruption. So, one party has no right to accuse the other of corruption,” Union Minister of State for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping, Pon Radhakrishnan, said today.
Radhakrishnan said the BJP was the only party where there is no corruption. He said, “Even the Congress has no right to speak about corruption. The only party in the country that is capable of giving corruption-free governance is the BJP.”
Speaking about the State, Radhakrishnan said, “The people of Tamilnadu expect a corruption-free, straight-forward and pure government in the State. If you look at the States across the nation, you will find that all the BJP-ruled States are developing fast.”
