Chennai: Officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 6.5 kg of gold valued at Rs two crore from a Dubai-New Delhi-Chennai Air India flight which arrived here this morning.
Sources said, soon after the flight touched down at the Kamaraj Domestic Terminal and after the passengers were disembarked, DRI officials searched the aircraft and found the gold concealed beneath a seat.
Since the flight started from Dubai and landed here after touching down at New Delhi, DRI officials suspect that gold might have been smuggled from Dubai.
Officials seized the gold bars weighing 6.5 kg and it was valued at Rs two crore. DRI officials were conducting investigations based on the footages recorded in the CCTV camera to identify the person who had smuggled the gold into the aircraft.
