Chennai: The number of vendors at Ambattur railway station has been on the rise and is now posing problems, according to commuters.
They say that traders are welcome but too many hawkers mean there actually is not much space for commuters to move around freely.
“Anybody can buy fresh fruits and flowers from these vendors. We can even buy electronic items like headphones from a few. However, the number of sellers need to be kept in check. For, too many are there now and it has become a nuisance. Also, they must be ordered to clear the area after the day’s sale. Many keep their pushcarts here, denoting that it is their space and that they will be back the next day. It should not be permitted. Railway authorities have been told about the problem but nothing has changed,” said Rajesh, a regular commuter.
