Chennai: A man was robbed of his mobile phone, ATM card and four sovereigns of gold after he met two women who established contact with him on a matrimonial website.
Kalicharan (42), a resident of MMDA in Arumbakkam and working in a private company, had met the women while hunting for a bride on a matrimonial website.
Kalicharan who was frustrated at not getting married was looking forward to meeting one of them at Vadapalani. He continued speaking to her over phone, considering her as his prospective bride.
Yesterday, he arrived at Ponnammal Street at Vadapalani, and to his surprise, found two women waiting for him outside a mansion. They led him to a serviced apartment where they robbed him of his phone, ATM card and four sovereigns of gold that he was wearing.
He subsequently lodged a complaint with Vadapalani police station. He told the police that he met the women on a popular matrimonial website and that they were north Indians.
