Chennai: Four persons were arrested for grievously assaulting a woman at Thiruvanmiyur today. According to the police, Parthasarathy (25), Prabhu (23), Vicky (24) and an auto driver (25) were arrested for attempting to murder Saranya.
Saranya’s husband Rajesh (34), a resident of Kannagi Nagar, was arrested by the police three months ago in a theft case.
Rajesh was angered as Saranya neither visited him in the prison nor made any effort to take him out on bail. And when he came out of jail few days ago, she went to her relative’s house.
Suspecting Saranya to be in an illicit relationship, Rajesh sought revenge. Last evening, he picked up Saranya in an autorickshaw from Kannagi Nagar and told her that they were going to visit a temple in Thiruvanmiyur.
When they were at Sivasundar Avenue, four men barged into the auto and stabbed her on the chest, hands and head and fled the spot. After attacking her, they threw her into a park nearby. Police arrested them with the help of CCTV cameras in the locality.
Police said, Rajesh and one more accomplice are missing. Sarayana continues to be critical at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital.
