Chennai: For the first time in the history of Rotary clubs in Chennai, Magesh Kumaragurubaran (31) from Rotary Club of United Chennai (Rotary International District 3232) has exhanged six flags with six international Rotary clubs in six days.
Speaking to ‘News Today‘, he said, “I achieved this feat during my week-long visit to Malayasia with the purpose of attending various Rotary clubs’ meetings in that country. Exchanging flags is Rotary’s very distinct tradition as Rotarians travelling abroad do it as an act of friendship and exchanging community pride. This custom offers Rotarians, the world over, a tangible symbol of international fellowship.”
Rotary Club of United Chennai president Sreehari Abhilash said, “During the six days of his stay in Malaysia, Magesh attended six club-meetings and exchanged flags. They were Rotary Club of Seberang Jaya, Rotary Club of Penang, Rotary Club of Tanjung Bungah, Rotary Club of Bukit Angkasa, Rotary Club of Bandar Sungai Petani and Rotary Club of Pantai Valley.”
Mahesh said, “This not only gave me an opportunity to learn more about the differences and priorities in community and social services projects Rotary does in every country but also helped learn the culture, food and practices followed in different nations.” On arrival to Chennai recently, Chennai Rotary District 3232 Governor Babu Peram congratulated Magesh Kumaragurubaran.
