Chennai: Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam founder T T V Dhinakaran has stated that the party has decided not to go on appeal against the 18 MLAs disqualification issue but face by-elections.
Speaking to mediapersons in Madurai this morning, Dhinakaran said it was decided that they would contest in all the 20 seats where by-polls are to be held.
He exuded confidence that they would win in all the 20 seats and that the party has nominated people to handle by-election preparations.
The 18 MLAs who were elected on the AIADMK ticket had been disqualified by Assembly Speaker P Dhanapal for petitioning the then Tamilnadu Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao to remove Edappadi K Palaniswami as Chief Minister.
As there was a split verdict in the disqualification case in the Madras High Court, a third judge, Justice N Sathyanarayana, appointed by the Supreme Court, decreed that the Speaker was right in his action.
Though there was talk that the 18 MLAs would go on appeal in the Supreme Court against the verdict, Dhinakaran today stated that they would rather face the by-polls to the 18 constituencies as also the two constituencies – Tiruvarur and Thiruparankundram – where by-elections are due.
