Chennai: Though police had made elaborate security arrangements during the birth anniversary celebrations of freedom fighter Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar, there was a minor incident of flex banners of the AIADMK being torn. Six persons have been arrested and cases registered against 100 persons, including AMMK founder T T V Dhinakaran.
At Pasumpon in Ramanathapuram district, various leaders took turns to garland the statue of Muthuramalinga Thevar on 30 October, his 111th birth anniversary. When it was the turn of Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) leader T T V Dhinakaran to garland the statue, it is alleged that his followers tore up the huge AIADMK banners put up along the Madurai road to the venue.
On a complaint from AIADMK district secretary Muniasamy, the Kamudhi police registered cases and arrested six persons, including the AMMK north Kamudhi union deputy secretary Marimuthu.
Cases have been registered against 100 persons, one of whom is T T V Dhinakaran, for defiling the banners and acting in a way to disturb peace in the community
Condemning the Palaniswami government for foisting cases and arresting AMMK members, Dhinakaran said he would organise a massive protest in Ramanathapuram if the government continues with its action.
