Chennai: The Tamilnadu government has fixed 6 am to 7 am and 7 pm to 8 pm as the two hours that people can burst crackers during Deepavali.
The Supreme Court had recently decreed that firecrackers can be burst only for two hours during Deepavali, from 9 pm to 10 pm. When the Tamilnadu government moved the court to reconsider its verdict and relax the timing, the top court allowed the States to fix their own timings but stood firm in its decision.
The State government announced this morning that it had fixed 6 am to 7 am and 7 pm to 8 pm as the two-hour window period when crackers can be burst in Tamilnadu.
The apex court had also said in its order that the local fire station personnel should ensure that the timings were strictly adhered to.
