Trio on 2-wheeler snatches Rs 60 lakh from mobile shop staff

Chennai: In a daring robbery, a three-member, bike-borne gang stole away Rs 60 lakh from a man at Seven Wells after attacking him with a knife.

According to the police, the complaint was filed by victim Rafeel (36), a resident of Seven Wells. He told the police that last night, at 10.45 pm, he was riding on his two-wheeler at Anaikaran Street, when three men on two bikes tried to snatch his bag. When he resisted, one of then used a knife and slit his right hand.

In his complaint, Rafeel told the police that the bag contained Rs 60 lakh. The money was handed over to him by his employer Jaffer (32) who runs a mobile phone store in the same locality.

Jaffer purchased phones from websites like Amazon and sold them at his shop. He gave the money to Rafeel to hand it over to an industrialist friend.

Rafeel has been admitted to a private hospital to treat the injury he suffered. The police are verifying the CCTV cameras in the area.
