Chennai edges past East Bengal

Chennai: East Bengal lost its first game of the season as Chennai City FC continued its dream run with a 2-1 win over its more fancied rivals in an I-League clash at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Tuesday.

Sandro Rodriguez (45+2nd minute) and Nestor Gordillo (87th minute penalty) scored for the visitor while Enrique Esqueda (52th) got his name to the scoresheet for the host. Playing its home matches in Coimbatore, Chennai City FC has surged to the top of the standings.

The result left Chennai unbeaten in four games with 10 points. East Bengal, remains second for the time being having six points in its kitty from three outings.
