Lankan Speaker ‘attacked’ in scuffle inside Parliament

Chennai: Sri Lankan Speaker Karu Jayasuriya was allegedly attacked during a scuffle that broke out in Parliament this morning.

According to reports, Mahinda Rajapaksa gave an emotional speech in Parliament after it was convened this morning at 10. He said the Prime Minister’s post was not a big deal for him as¬† he had been the President of Sri Lanka.

He said he had not seen a black day in Lankan parliamentary history like yesterday (when there was chaos as he lost the trust vote).

His speech led to members of the United National Party of Ranil Wickremesinghe raising their voice in the House. This later led to a melee inside the august House and it was reported that the Speaker was attacked.

The latest reports state that the Speaker adjourned Parliament and left the House.
