Chennai: Chennaiyin FC first team players Thoi Singh and Francisco Fernandes inaugurated the Just For Kicks (JFK) league, an annual football league for children from low-income and under-resourced schools around the country from the JFK program. in the city on Sunday.
Chennaiyin FC has collaborated with the global for-purpose organization, ‘Enabling Leadership’ in kicking off the JFK League, which involves providing a platform for talented children as well as helping create a pipeline to develop good football coaches.
In the Chennai leg, 360 boys and girls from 11 schools around the city will participate in a six-week league, with the winners qualifying for the national championship in February 2019.
Thoi and Francis interacted with the jubilant kids at the venue, imparting strong words of motivation and advice to them on the importance of indulging in sports while focusing on their education.
“Even I started playing football at an early age just like you kids. Listening to my coaches’ advice and instructions and looking after my fitness is what helped me grow as a footballer and a person. I urge you all to do the same, it is a fantastic initiative you are all part of,” said Francis while lauding the program for conducting a unique football league for kids at a pan-India level.
