‘(A)NEEThi’ – Film on Anitha’s life set for release

More than a year after the death of medical aspirant Anitha, a girl from an oppressed section who was unable to pursue medical education, a short film is all set to hit screens.

(A)NEETh directed by Viscom student Sriram Kanchana Thangaraj, based on the life of Anitha, who gave up her life due to her failure in NEET exam creating a huge uproar in Tamilnadu, has made it to several international festivals. The movie featuring Cabrella of Kalakka Povadhu Yaaru fame playing the role of Anitha and veteran actor Pandian as her father is ready for theatrical release.

During a media interaction, the young director said, “I never thought of directing a short until I saw the disturbing news on Anitha. That’s when I decided to make a film on the subject, as such stories need to be told to bring awareness to people.”

I did have a few issues with the Censor Board, he said and added, “They wanted me to mute the word NEET and use the title as ‘Neethi’. So, I added the ‘A’ in a bracket.”

Sriram also did his bit of research, meeting the parents of Anitha and others in her native place before embarking on his journey with (A)NEEThi which runs for 18 minutes.
