Chennai: An AIADMK worker has been arrested by the police for cheating a woman after promising her a job.
According to the police, Kamaraj (47), a resident of Anna Nagar, served as the Kanayakumari Youth Wing Secretary.
The complaint was lodged by Ajanta John (48), a resident of Rangan Street, T Nagar, who works as a school teacher at St Thomas Mount.
Since she has crossed 40 years of age and had not landed on a government job, she approached Kamaraj and asked him to help her get a job.
On 15 June last year, Kamaraj had taken Rs 6 lakh from Ajanta on the pretext getting her a government teacher’s job.
However, even after months he did not meet the promise. When Ajanta asked him to returned the money, he took four months and later returned Rs 4.60 lakh.
When he was asked to repay the rest, he said he will not give it and threatened her and used abusive language.
Subsequently, Ajanta lodged a complaint with the city police who filed a case against him for cheating.
Kamaraj was arrested by Mambalam police for not returning Rs 1.40 lakh and for threatening.
According to the sources, Kamaraj’s wife had come to the station with Rs 40,000 cash and a cheque for Rs one lakh to get her husband released.
