Man from Malaysia steals camera worth Rs 80 lakh

Chennai: A complaint has been lodged at Virugambakkam police by a businessman alleging that his cameras and lenses worth Rs 80 lakh were stolen by a man in Malaysia.

According to the police, the complainant K Gopi (41), a resident of Baskar Colony, Virugambakkam filed the complaint against one Sayyed Ali.

Gopi gives the equipment on rent for shooting movies and other functions. He told the police that on 17 November, Ali had taken his shooting equipment, including cameras and lenses on rent and left for Malaysia. Gopi had asked two of his assistants to accompany Ali for the trip to ensure his machines are handled with care.

However, his assistants informed him from Malaysia that the items have been stolen. Subsequently, a complaint was filed with the Malaysia police.

Yesterday, the assistants returned from Malaysia and Gopi took them to the police station and filed a complaint. Virugambakkam police are inquiring the case.
