CM, deputy CM in Nagai; distribute relief to Gaja-hit people

Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam are presently giving away relief materials to those affected by severe cyclonic storm Gaja in worst-hit Nagapattinam district.

Palaniswami travelled by rain from Chennai to Nagapattinam. Later, he teamed up with the Deputy Chief Minister and gave away relief materials to the victims at a function got up in P R Puram.

He also said the livelihood of the people who lost it would be restored by the government.

People used the opportunity to also hand over personal petitions to the leaders.

The Chief Minister had been deflecting criticism that he had done an aerial survey of the areas devastated by Gaja. DMK leader Stalin, especially, had been vocal in slamming Palaniswami who insisted he had used a helicopter to get an overview of the damage caused to the delta districts to give a better representation to the Central government.

But, nevertheless, as a possible atonement, the Chief Minister travelled by train to the area. He is expected to cover the other affected spots by road.
