Low pressure area in Bay of Bengal brings rain to coastal dts

Chennai: The low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal is likely to bring rain to the coastal districts of Tamilnadu till 7 December.

According to the Met office, following the dry weather that prevailed in the State, it has  been raining from last evening in most places.

In the interior districts, there has been moderate rainfall in Vellore, Madurai, Salem, Tiruchi, Coimbatore and Kodaikanal. Some areas in Chennai have received heavy showers.

The low pressure is likely to move towards land, bringing rain in its wake in the coastal districts of Tamilnadu and Puducherry. Rain is likely in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Thoothukudi, Kanyakumari and Ramanathapuram this evening.

After this, the winds are likely to move northwards, bringing rain to the interior districts, say Met officials.

The intensity of rain will come down after 7 December, say the sources.

Schools in Pudukottai, Puducherry, Nagapattinam, have declared a holiday owing to the heavy rain in these areas or because the schools are used as relief camps.
