Chennai: A team of policemen from the Intellectual Property Right Enforcement Cell (IPREC) yesterday raided the premises of a shop in the city selling spurious camera parts and batteries and selling them as genuine and original products of a popular company.
A press release said the team, headed by S Vijayalakshmi, inspector of police, IPREC, Ayanavaram, raided the premises of V3 Camera Service, City Centre Plaza on Ellis Road, and found that the shop was involved in the sale and distribution of spurious products like camera battery and parts of the battery charger.
They were then packaging it and selling it as original Canon products. Following the raid, the spurious parts were recovered and a case registered under provisions of the Copyright Act against staff of V3 Camera Service.
The raids were conducted by the police team following a complaint from C3i Consultants India, a private firm, authorised by Canon Kabhushiki Kaish, Tokyo and Japan.
