“There is a shortage of good character artistes in cinema. I think we can fill that gap by using actors from stage plays,” said actor Vijay Sethupathi during an event in the city to promote his forthcoming release Seethakathi.
Seethakathi releasing 20 December has Vijay Sethupathi playing the lead as a stage actor. The posters of the film showing the ‘Makkal Selvan’ in several characters have been received positively by the public.
Vijay Sethupathi said that the film revolves around stage actors and tells their story. Seventeen veteran stage actors who have roles in Seethakathi were honored by the film’s crew and Vijay Sethupathi today.
Speaking about them said, he said, “The story of Seethakathi revolves around these people. They are all wonderful actors. In fact, all the people who came to audition for these 17 roles were wonderful. I thank all of them for acting with me.”
It is to be noted that Vijay Sethupathi plays Ayya, a 70-year-old theater artiste in Seethakathi. The black and white image of the character was released as the first look poster went viral last month. Pointing at a veteran stage actor, Ooty Pithan (87-years-old), Vijay Sethupathi said, “The elderly man character in the first look poster of the film was inspired by him. I observed the way he walked, talked and tried to imbibe that in my character in Seethakathi.”
Director Balaji Tharaneetharan said that he has used live recording and sync sound and has completely avoided dubbing. Actresses Parvathi Nayar and Remya Nambeesan have appeared as themselves in the film. ‘96‘ music director Govind Menon composed the music for Seethakathi.
