Chennai: In a huge relief to the residents, the process to remove the garbage piled on the Madambakkam dumpyard in the Town Panchayat is now being removed.
Speaking to News Today, Madambakkam Town Panchayat Executive Officer S Loganathan said the garbage is being moved to Kolathur near Kattankulathur.
It is said that close to 12 tonnes of garbage is collected in Madambakkam Town Panchayat.
The presence of the dumpyard in the locality was a major cause of concern for the residents as it emanated foul smell and also acted as breeding ground for mosquitos.
Ganapathy, a resident from the locality, said, “We are glad that our long pending request of removing the garbage is finally being realised. We hope that the clearing is done in a proper manner without much trouble to the residents.”
The residents also seem to be skeptical about the idea of segregation of waste in the same place after the removal of the garbage.
“We are not sure of how the Municipality is going to approach the segregation process and how successful it is going to be. The only thing which we want is to ensure that land is not polluted again and that the residents are not put in a spot of bother,” Ganapathy said.
