Chennai: In what seemed like a scene lifted out from a movie, four bank employees, including a driver and a security guard, allegedly robbed an ATM vehicle carrying Rs 1.60 crore only to be busted by the police within hours at Ramanathapuram.
The gang of four are now facing an inquiry, while police are trying to nab others involved in the mishap-drama.
The sequence of events began last night when the vehicle carrying cash ‘met with an accident and overturned at Kadaladi-East Coast Road’.
The occupants of the vehicle – a driver, security guard and two bank employees- claimed that the driver lost control and crashed the vehicle. They also said the cash went missing in a mysterious manner.
The van was loading cash for the State Bank Of India ATMs. Police who rushed to the spot found that lock of the cash vault was intact. Superintendent of Police Omprakash Meena conducted inquiries with the four persons in the vehicle.
They were identified as Guru Pandi, Kabilan, Veera Pandi and Anbu. Sources claim, they admitted to looting the cash after staging the accident. Further inquiries are underway.
