Chennai: It was a different show for rasikas at Sri Thyaga Brahma Gana Sabha at T Nagar recently, as a senior official from Indian Space Research Organisation, staged a vocal concert and enthralled the audience.
Subhalakshmi Krishnamoorthy, Deputy Director of ISRO, flew all the way from Bengaluru and rendered songs from the works of saints like Sri Thyagaraya, Muthiah Bhagavathar, T Chowdayya, and so on.
Speaking to News Today, Subhalakshmi said, I am indebted to my guru Valli Ammal of Thiruvananthapuram for teaching me vocal music, when I was hardly five. She used to teach me lessons for several hours and introduced plenty of ragas, alapanai, neraval and kalpana swarams.
“Later on, I got trained under guru Gomathy Chidambaram, staff artiste of All India Radio, Thiruvananthapuram, and learnt advanced lessons from the legendary Madurai T N Seshagopalan. My musical training continued with another guru MS Sheela who introduced me to rare kirtis.
About managing her work schedule with music, she stated, My first and foremost priority is my work, as I am part of an organisation that does service to our nation, society and mankind.
I was involved in various satellite projects of ISRO and worked in the capacity of Project Engineer, Manager, Deputy Project Director, Principal Investigator and so on. During my free time, I used to practice music by learning new kirtis or fine tuning pallavis which actually relieved me from work stress,” she noted, and added, My desire is to learn more and more in music and wish to do jugalbandhi concert, fusion concert, lecture demonstrations, and inspire the younger generation into Carnatic music.”
