Chennai: A meeting of Tamilnadu Cabinet has been convened on 24 December (Monday) in which various important issues such as permanent closure of Sterlite plant, Mekedatu and non-receipt of Central assistance for restoration works in Cyclone Gaja affected areas will be taken up for discussion.
The meeting to be chaired by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has been convened at a time when there is a strong demand urging the government to take a policy decision to close down the Sterlite Plant in Thoothukudi permanently.
It is also said the important aspects that should be part of Governor’s speech when the Assembly is convened in January will also be discussed during the meeting. Sources also said Governor Banwarilal Purohit has expressed his desire to take part in the Cabinet meeting. Governors do not usually take part in Cabinet discussions.
